Twenty-five years of festival imagery return to life through augmented reality, animation and the creatures behind each edition.
Unloop’s creative partnership with MONSTRA began in 2020. Since then, interactive installations, augmented reality and virtual reality have brought the festival and its audiences closer through a shared belief in animation, experimentation and storytelling.
For the festival’s 25th anniversary, the annual posters became portals into previous editions. Visitors scan a QR code, select a year and point their phone at the corresponding artwork to reveal Unloop’s interpretation of the Monstra behind it.
Each character emerges through animation and augmented reality, carrying the visual language of its original poster into a new spatial scene. The experience explores both the entertaining and darker sides of the creatures without replacing the distinct graphic identity of each edition.
Presented in Lisbon and expanded to Casa Rolão in Braga, the project turns a quarter-century of poster design into an accessible living archive. Technology becomes the bridge between art, memory and the simple pleasure of seeing a story come alive.
