Sentir Estarreja - Mobile application

Estarreja is a municipality situated in the Baixo Vouga sub-region in the Center of Portugal. Rich in different dimensions, it is a land of carnival and life, culture, art, nature and biodiversity. The lands are privileged by nature and abundant rice fields on the banks of the Ria that meanders through the region. Lately the region has been gaining popularity due to the ESTAU Street Art Festival, attracting many national and international artists.
We were challenged to express the features of Estarreja municipality in a digital and interactive way. The app was developed within the concept of Smart Cities. We enable visitors to discover the region through its multiple and different dimensions, meanwhile providing the possibility to share each moment with the world.

The application design was inspired by the recent exploring and so called "GO" apps, promoting tourism in the region. We wanted something direct and easy to use during a walk outside. The features were created thinking of the small size of the city, being that only by walking around the application will suggest different points of interest.
The palette and color style of the app is focused on a younger audience with interest in arts, to stimulate this kind of tourism in Estarreja. This was done based on the graphic identity that was already created for the municipality of Estarreja.

One of the main features of the application SENTIR ESTARREJA is a suggestion of thematic itineraries and points of interest (e.g. heritage, environment and landscape, art in public space, equipment, and services) based on the user's location. This feature is aimed to stimulate the user's interaction with the territory of Estarreja. Likewise, the user can travel around the municipality, discovering different points of interest that he can evaluate, comment, and share on social networks. These enable the user to explore the territory in a simple, interactive, and intuitive way within the narrative, accompanied by a video, image, and audio content available in different languages.

The application was designed to make the user experience flow simple, interactive, and intuitive. Likewise, the user is invited to discover the surroundings with the map, from which all points and menus are accessible, as the user tracks his progress.
We use artificial intelligence to suggest what's most important to the user in each particular moment. When it's time to lunch or dinner the application will tend to suggest more restaurants than actual art or activities, and so on, adapting to the user's different needs.

Another feature of the app is an automatic adaptation of the interface due to the time of the day. Likewise, the user can explore the surroundings not only during the day but also at night.

Augmented reality enables the user to interact with the surrounding cultural heritage represented in the application. Likewise, providing the user with immersive experiences for each augmented reality point: We might see one of the street artworks gaining life in three dimensions or listen to one of the historical figures of the city telling a story. All these moments are possible to capture with the app's selfie-mode, allowing it to be shared on social networks.

Each experience appears in augmented reality, near certain points of interest that trigger it. All of them are 3D animations overlapped to the camera's image, creating the illusion of augmented reality.

The environmental indicators were developed as a response to existing environmental challenges and were implemented within the program of Smart Cities. This feature allows the user to check real-time information about different environmental indicators such as air and water quality, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, etc. We are proud to be part of the development of this city's art and sustainability through the app SENTIR ESTARREJA.
